The
Travels of Lob
Mr
Lob has been djing, promoting and running parties since 1999
and mainly plays an eclectic blend of funk, soul, jazz, hip
hop and Latin soul and just about anything else he can use
to create a vibe that suits the venues that hire him to play.
The one thing you can say about Mr Lob's style is that whatever
he plays it has to have a real funky and soulful sensibility.
Always
endeavouring to take the crowd on a musical journey and create
a funky vibe Mr Lob is known for getting the room dancing
if that is what is called for or alternatively playing smooth
background sounds to drink to and he has been doing this
successfully for the past 11 years.
Since
starting his Dj Career in 1999 Mr Lob has held down residencies
at club nights like Fistful of Funk, Strange Behaviour, Car
Boot Funk, Dropping Phat, Black Caesar, Soul Searching, Big
City Funk, The Get Down, Sound Check, Inner City Groove,
Bass Camp, Bimbo Deluxe and Good Times. Mr Lob was also behind
a very successful party called Weedhopper that ran for 2
years and continues to this day with the occasional party.
Mr
Lob has djed at festivals such as Earthcore (2005 & 2007),
The 2007 Spanish Festival, The 2007 Melbourne International
Comedy Festival, The 2009 & 2010 Welcome Events in Federation
Square and has been the go to Dj for The Melbourne City Council
for events as diverse as Laneway 3000 (2008) and Winter Solstice
(2009). Mr Lob has also played PBS FM's famous 'Soul A Go
Go' parties in February 2009 & May
2010 and appeared on PBS FM's shows 'Switched On' and 'The Breakdown'
as a guest on a number of occasions.
Mr
Lob has also toured Thailand 4 times and played support for
the Stanton Warriors in Bangkok in 2005 and continues to
play and be the main MC for the annual outdoor 'Jive Garden
Festival' in Pai, Northern Thailand which saw 2500 party
goers going crazy on January 16, 2010.
You
can catch Mr Lob at his regular residencies at The
Penny Black, The
Brunswick Mess Hall and Murmur as well as guest
sets at other venues.

Dj
Obliveus
His
mates call him OB1 or OB, though Eric, Big Daddy or Sir is
also cool with him! OB comes from San Jose, California, but
has lived in Melbourne, Australia for the past 9 years and
began throwing parties soon after arriving. OB mainly plays
an infectious blend of funk, hip hop, dancehall, Motown soul,
reggae, disco, edits, pop and just about anything else he
can use to work the room. The one thing you can say about
OB's style is that he's hard to define; yet always plays
to the crowd and will pull out whatever it takes to get the
party jumping. Assuming that's what is required. If it’s
the after work dinner vibe to full-on dance floor craziness
or vice-versa, Ob can take it that way and has been doing
it for many years.
Since
moving to Melbourne, OB has held down residencies at club
nights like Out Of Order, Fractured, Destroyer, Break Rock
City, Prime Mover, Sound Check and Regrooved. OB was also
behind a party called Beats Working for 5 years before leaving
to pursue music more in touch with his weird nature.
OB
rocked plenty of sets at festivals such as Earthcore, Rainbow
Serpent and Adventjah and was fortunate enough
to have his eclectic mix played on Triple J national
radio as part of Nicole Foote's 'The Mixup'.
You
can catch Ob with regular sets and residencies at Section
8, The Penny Black, Bimbo Deluxe, Phoenix Bar, Veludo, Murmur,
Campari House and First Floor, so keep your eyes
and ears out, if interested.
OB also
writes a funk/soul column
monthly in Inpress Magazine, The Get Down, as well as doing
graphic design work for USA based clothing company, Fresh
Knox.
As a sign of OB"s eclectic nature, his music career has seen him support and
play with many of the top names in breakbeat, hip
hop, dancehall, drum'n'bass and live music. DJ's and producers
like Andy C, Plump DJ's, Pendulum, Marky, Freq Nasty,
Katalyst, Fort Knox Five, Phantom Beats, Sneak, All Good
Funk Alliance, Slyde, Bryan Gee, Stanton Warriors, Andy
Smith, DJ Food, Spitloop, The Scratch Foundation, Elite Force,
Spikey Tee, Ils, BLIM, Q45, Krust, Shapeshifter Sound
System, Jacques Lu Cont, Miagi, Die, Cut La Roc, Mutiny,
Breakfastaz, Grooverider, Tayo, Lee Burridge, Concord
Dawn, Diesel Boy, Rennie Pilgrem, Propellerheads, Sub Focus,
Loose Cannons, Fierce, Ladytron, Mark Pritchard, Rephrase,
Deadly Avenger, The Upbeats, Randall, Kraymon,
Slynk, Tipper, Orbital, Nubreed and bands such as No Doubt,
Incubus, Smashmouth, Kylie Auldist, Butterfingers,
Papa Roach, Mr Savona, RUCL, Insolence, Fizard, Rhian
Sheehan, The Inflatables, Pato Banton and more. I also
supported Chris Rock for his 3 dates on his ‘No Apologies’ comedy
tour when he was last in Melbourne.
